Study the macro-invertebrates that call freshwater home. Compare these invertebrate populations from various locations (ex: streams vs lakes) and learn about EPT indicator species and water quality.  This activity works great when coupled with other water quality tests.

Learn about physical characteristics and behaviors that allow a duck to survive in the wild.  As each characteristic is introduced a fellow teacher, parent, counselor, or student who is a good sport will be dressed in a Daisy Duck costume, complete with pink dress.  This of course results in quite a humorous scene.

 
 
Split students into teams to sort a pile of trash into recyclable categories...

 
 
Teach students basic navigation skills, how to use a magnetic compass, and then release them to practice their skills in a competition using one of the compass courses on site...
