A ministry of Twin Rocks Friends Camp in
Cooperation with First Class Homeschool Ministries.
  • Who: For homeschooling Families with Students in grades K-12.
  • When: This year Twin Rocks will be running two separate weeks of the program each with a new theme.  At this time the goal is to repeat these themes next year giving campers the opportunity to experience both sets of activities and classes.  Pick one theme this year, then choose the other theme next year.
  • Week #1: September 16-20, 2013 - Theme: Marine Biology 
    (Week #1 is currently full.  For registration inquiries (or to join a waitlist) please call Twin Rocks Friends Camp at 503-355-2284.  If you have an RV we may be able to fit you in.  Otherwise, please consider registering for Week #2 this year and attending the Marine Biology themed week in 2014.)
  • Week #2: October 7-11, 2013 - Theme: Creation, Science, and Art
    (Week #2 is filling quickly.  Consider registering and paying a deposit (in the final confirmation page), then pay the remainder by the registration deadline.  This will hold a space for your family to attend.  If you have to cancel all but $30 per student will be returned to you, with a maximum of $90 held per family.)
Are you ready to spend a week exploring creation with your family and friends on the Oregon Coast?  Outdoor School at Twin Rocks Friends Camp offers opportunities to venture into nature as you never have before.
Even with such a strong academic focus we’ll find time to build community, learn about God, and play.  Throughout the week you’ll have opportunities to go boating and hiking, mini-golfing, practice archery, sing silly songs and perform skits, make new friends, play on the beach, and worship together.
Outdoor School at Twin Rocks is an experience you won’t want to miss and you’ll remember it for the rest of your life. So invite friends and family to join us at Twin Rocks for a fantastic week of learning, fun, and adventure!

Week #1: September 16-20, 2013 - Theme: Marine Biology
Join us in September for a week focused on both Fresh and Saltwater environments.  Venture to the tidepools and learn what types of unique creatures God created that call the Oregon Coast home.  While there search for creatures such as gunnels, sea stars, sea cucumbers, moss crabs, porcelain crabs, sculpins, sea lemons, opalescent nudibranchs, mussels, and clams.  We might even find a lewis' moon snail to share with you.  For a more complete list of creatures calling our beaches home download our free Tidepool ID Chart. 

We'll also spend class time exploring freshwater environments as well.  In these classes you might see crayfish, trout, perch, snails, freshwater mussels, dragonfly and damselfly nymphs, caddisflies, and of course, newts.  You might even see a freshwater lamprey, water scorpion, or a giant water bug.  As with all of our classes these activities will emphasize a hands-on approach.
As in past years a dissection will be offered during the week to students 9 years old and older.  The organism to be dissected is yet to be determined, but it will be related to marine biology.

One of our guest presenters this year will be Sherri Seligson.  Sherri is a marine biology expert and author of the Aplogia Marine Biology Course.  The Seligsons will be flying in from Florida to share ways marine biology points toward our Creator.  To learn more check out her work online at: http://shop.apologia.com/9-marine-biology

Week #2: October 7-11, 2013 - Theme: Creation, Science, and Art

Join us in October to study the creativity of God and beauty of his Creation through art.  Get a chance to practice working with a variety of mediums such as clay, paint, pencils, charcoal, ink, cut paper, natural collages, and more.  Topic examples include: colors and patterns in nature, textures, shading, perspective, proportions, beauty, camouflage, growth, metamorphosis, and anatomy.  You don't need to be a naturally gifted artist to enjoy and benefit from this week of outdoor school, it is designed for all ages and skill levels.

Our guest teachers during the week will be professional and recreational artists, professors, and teachers presenting in their areas of expertise.  We will have multiple guest presenters because of the variety of art mediums available.  We'll post information on a few of the instructors on our Homeschool Blog.

What does my registration include?
Your registration includes all program expenses and excellent food and housing provided by Twin Rocks Friends Camp.  If you register an entire family then we'll put your family in your own cabin, unless you request otherwise.  Cabins are insulated, heated, and have their own restrooms/showers.  You'll need to bring your own sleeping bags and linens.

Registration Requirements:
  1. Your family must have at least one student between 5-18 years old to register. 
  2. This year we are requiring that at least one parent attend with their children.  Alternatively, parents may choose to send their children with another trusted adult (grandparents, or another family).  To do this an additional form needs to be filled out.  If you plan on doing this contact Twin Rocks Friends Camp at: 503-355-2284 to register your child and receive a copy of this consent form. 
  • If you desire to send your child on their own to provide them with an independent camp experience consider our friends at the Homeschool Science Camp.

Cost:
First Student (5-18 years / K-12th): $278 ($308 if registered or paid after August 14th for week 1 and September 4 for week 2).
Additional Siblings/Students (5-18 years): $175 Each
Parents: $50
Children (3-4 years): $50
Infants (0-2 years): Free!
Maximum Cost / Family: $680

Final cutoff: No registrations will be accepted after September 10 for week 1 and October 1 for week 2.  Once the event is full you will be asked to join a waiting list.
